Rider Fundraisers: Best Practices
-
1. Sign Up, Take the Leap
To create your fundraising page, login to your portal profile on RunSignUp, and submit your info on the Become a Fundraiser page.
On this page, add your photo, and personalize your story. Use the messaging on the main donation page, or write your own.
-
2. Keep It Concise, Tell Your Story
M2D represents a wonderful community of regional and national riders - each of whom have their own journeys and stories to tell, inspired by riding for 2 months, 2 years, or 2+ decades!
For your story: tell about your experience riding + prepping; explain your journey; make it serious, fun, or funny; or appeal to the greater good of donating to a great cause.
Stuck on story crafting? Get inspired by your fellow riders.
-
3. Help Them Help You
For your outreach, draft an email template - if sending a bulk correspondence, write the email TO your email and BCC your contacts.
Be sure to include your story and give them your RunSignUp direct link to your donation page. You can customize your URL in your profile fundraiser settings.
-
4. Make the Ask, Use Your Platforms
Each of you have an extended network of friends and family willing to support your journey. Send your fundraising request within the San Miguel County region and broader. If you have contacts nationally or internationally, why not ask?
We know making the ask can be the biggest hurdle to overcome, but you will be pleasantly surprised by the support you receive if you put out the request to your contacts. And, every contribution counts, no matter how big or small.
-
5. Remind, Remind + Thank Donors
Don’t just ask once - remind your potential donors multiple times. Send reminders during the lead up to the event as well as the week-of the event.
Returning from last year? Remember to ask your past donors for contributions - sometimes they will give more year over year as encouragement for your progress!
Along with reminders, continuously thank donors for their generosity. Their contributions are important and valuable, and their support is vital to JFK’s continuity.
-
6. Follow Up, Gratitude is Key
After your ride, be sure to thank all donors for their generous contributions. Acknowledge their support for your journey and fundraising goals; provide a WIN moment from your experience with the M2D ride.
Provide information for why their donation matters, using JFK stories or M2D News + Press. Ask them to follow JFK/M2D on social media: @m2d.classic. For more information on where their funds will be allocated this year, they can sign up for our newsletter.
